The Hotel, Vila Maria and an unbuilt Luxury house near the city

Vila Maria, São Tomé

We designed this small condominium on the edge of the city of São Tomé in 2003-8. The country is seen as a place of refuge in this corner of Africa, close to Angola, Nigeria and several other African countries whose leaders could take refuge here in difficult times. We designed the 2,3 and 4 bedroom in a style which echoed the old cocoa farms (roças) with a central circle of buildings at the entrance which unfortunately has not been completed. Project and construction was carried out at the same time as the Pestana São Tomé Hotel.

The hotel at São Tomé

The hotel occupies a promontory with a small fort giving the site good views to sea and fresh breezes. In addition to the 110 room hotel there is a casino, discotheque and office buildings.
